With my type specimen research conducted in Week 01;

Week 01 - Introduction + Reverse History / Gill Sans

I decided to go ahead with Gill Sans as my font of choice. The sketches below weren’t particularly inspired, as my previous approach to type specimen sketches didn’t focus on the type itself (which is the whole point of a type specimen screen). This time, I opted for manipulating the iconic ‘g’ of Gill Sans, (more so focusing on the letter itself, and the shapes it creates).

The bottom right sketch reminded me of the London Underground tube map - quite befitting of the Gill Sans font! (Or a pair of glasses, depending how you look at it)!

Week 04 - critique week! I wasn’t aware that we had apply colour, so my designs are all in greyscale.

I’m glad that my pieces were still in greyscale, as it allowed me to ask for feedback on the newer type specimen screen shapes, with feeling that I lost a lot of progress. #1 and #2 seemed to go over well, and were suggested simple, high contrast palettes. #3 was my least favourite of the group, as there was no direction with it. The other two were simple; #3 was simply cluttered, so I decided I was gonna scrap it and have another go!
